The gang’s exploits ranged from carving a baseball diamond on the White House lawn to allegedly shooting spitballs at President Andrew Jackson’s portrait. He quickly became infamous for his adventures with the “White House Gang,” a group of boys that included his brother Archibald (Archie) and their friends from the Force School. ![]() Quentin was three years old when his father assumed the presidency after the assassination of William McKinley. Much of the public remembrance of Quentin in the days that followed reminisced about his boyhood in the White House. At only twenty years old, Quentin Roosevelt was dead. 2 Several days later, the worst was confirmed. Some held out hope that he had made a successful emergency landing and ended up as a prisoner of war. President Theodore Roosevelt’s youngest son had been a media favorite since his childhood in the White House, and Americans waited anxiously for news of his fate.
